Troll and I - Worst Nintendo Switch Game? | 8-Bit Eric leave a reply This is a review of Troll and I on the Nintendo Switch. I was excited when I first saw Troll and I’s trailer. This is currently on PC, PS4, XBOX, and Switch. I spent 30 bucks getting it, solely because it is a physical game on the Nintendo Switch. Those seem hard to come by. Shortly after saying it was a top 5 game to get in August, I was bombarded with tons of people saying how much the game would suck. The story is simple, There is also another story where a billionaire called requests the help of a hunter to track down and kill an elusive troll for scientific research. A few years later in the opening sequence we are introduced to another character Otto, who after hunting, returns to his village and finds it on fire. He sees his mom, but a burning tree falls between them and she tells him to save himself and run away. Along the way, he runs into a troll who saves his life and the two grow a bond that progresses thru the game.The graphics look out dated. PS2 Xbox 360 era. Have to remember that it is an indy game. The game graphics in the Troll and I title were average and not impressive, but I wasn’t expecting that from the beginning. There was quite a few frame rate issues, pop in, and bugs that made the game feel like it wasn’t ready to be put out. Sometimes there was even a weird ghostly looking thing that popped in at times during the game using the hunting ability. Characters seem very expressionless throughout cutscenes, and it’s even weirder when you die, both characters have this agonizing look of pain without screaming??Troll and I is a third person action adventure with it a co-op buddy mechanic. The core gameplay has you and your troll counterpart working together to solve puzzles in order to proceed. Available to play in single player mode or via split-screen co-op, with the press of a button you can switch between one or the other. Early on your taught this mechanic thru a puzzle where you have to use an aircraft wing to help guide Otto across jumps he can't make. This causes the game to play slow at times and if you don't have patience switching between the characters will wear you out. Now the game honestly showed promise to me early on, and it didn’t seem too bad. The hunting mechanics, pulling branches out to make spears, and using stealth seemed like the game had a lot of potential. However, shortly after the tutorial of the game, there was a glitch that kept happening to me. No matter how many times I restarted. It wasn’t until I went online and saw that the developers said you have to hard reset your switch by holding down the power button and selecting power off because of a memory dump? What is bad about this, is this comes after a MAJOR patch that was released across all platforms and included in the switch version, This game obviously needs a lot more patching. Troll and I tried to implement a variety of mechanics from games such as tomb raider, uncharted, and other similar games but just couldn’t implement them right.
